The reading app for Spanish and French

Learn Spanish and French by reading the news

Real news stories at your level: A1, A2 or B1. Pick the topics you care about, and switch level on any story with one tap.

Most language apps make you earn the right to read real content.

Lectura starts you there.

How it works

Reading the news in Spanish or French, in three steps

1

Choose your language and level

Spanish or French, at A1, A2 or B1. Not sure? Start at A1.

2

Pick your topics

Your feed fills with new stories on the topics you choose.

3

Read, and switch level

Too hard? Tap down a level. Too easy? Tap up. Same story.

The main feature

One story. Three levels.

Every story is written at A1, A2 and B1. The facts stay the same. Only the language changes.

  • A1148 words Short sentences, the most common words
  • A2248 words Longer sentences, the past and the future
  • B1366 words Close to a newspaper article

Tip: read the easier version first. Then you know what happens, and the harder one is easier to follow.

The real Lectura reader, with a real story. Tap a level.

Your feed

  • World news, politics, business, technology, science, health, sport, culture, entertainment and the environment
  • Short enough to read in a few minutes
  • Explore all topics and levels when you want something different

Who it is for

For learners who want to read real things

You know the basics

You have done a course or an app such as Duolingo, and now you want to read something real, not more practice sentences.

You are stuck at A2 or B1

Progress at this stage comes from reading a lot. Every day there are new stories that are hard enough to teach you something, but not too hard to finish.

You follow the news anyway

Read about the match, the film or the new phone in Spanish or French, on the day it happens.

Questions

Common questions

Is Lectura free?

Yes. The free plan gives you 1 article a day, at any level. Premium gives you unlimited articles, offline reading and article conversion.

Is it good for beginners?

Yes, if you know some basic words. A1 stories use short sentences and common words. If you are starting from zero, a course first will help.

How is Lectura different from Duolingo?

Duolingo teaches words and grammar with exercises. Lectura gives you real stories to read at your level. Many learners use both: more about reading after Duolingo.
